Profile

Having qualified at Bart’s and The London Dental School in 1987, I followed a career in general dental practice for nearly 25 years. In addition I spent one day per week as a Clinical Lecturer which has now evolved into a full-time position.

As Head of Student Support within the Dental School, I lead a team responsible for the well-being of all the undergraduate and postgraduate students. This involves dealing with personal, financial, academic or health issues whilst the student studies with us. This is a challenging and ever expanding role.

My position as Clinical Lead at the Barkantine Outreach Clinic encompasses the smooth running of this 20 chair dental unit located in the Isle of Dogs. Third year students experience their first taste of primary care at this clinic and therefore is a very important aspect of their dental curriculum.

As Lead for the 3rd year, it is my responsibility to liaise with tutors, students and administration staff and ensure that the correct curriculum teaching is delivered and in a timely manner.

My role as Senior Admissions Tutor for Dentistry requires me to be part of a team responsible for the assessment of prospective undergraduate students before admission into Dental School. I also participate in the organisation and execution of Open Days, Widening Participation events and the visiting of local schools to promote our Dental School and Dentistry as a career.

Working here at Queen Mary is exciting and eventful. It is a very forward thinking organisation, full of opportunities. I enjoy working with people from such varied personal, academic and cultured backgrounds. Being with students who are always younger than myself (!), makes me feel younger – I love their enthusiasm for life.
