Institute of Dentistry
The Institute of Dentistry at Barts and The London, School of Medicine and Dentistry has a long history of innovation in dental education and research. The Dental School of The London Hospital Medical College was formed in 1911. The Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry was formed in 1995 and merged with Queen Mary, University of London in the same year.
Recently Queen Mary, University of London was invited to join the Russell Group of leading UK universities. The Russell group is a grouping of the 24 leading UK Universities. This development is an acknowledgement of QM’s status as a top-class research-led institution and is testament to the industry and talent of our staff.
The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise results saw Barts and The London join Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College and University College London in the top 5 medical and dental schools in England for quality of research. The School was ranked first in London, ahead of University College, Imperial College and King’s College.
The Institute of Dentistry shares the vision of Queen Mary that learning takes place in a research environment that enriches the teaching process. It acknowledges its location in London's East End, embracing the potential this offers for teaching and learning. We offer a friendly, focused and successful environment for postgraduate study.
The Sunday Times University Guide 2008 says:
