Dr Tim Friel, BDS, MSc

I qualified in 1988 from the London Hospital and did vocational training with the Community Dental Service in Hillingdon. In 1989 I moved to a Dental Officer post in West Hertfordshire where I stayed until 1995. During this time I completed an MSc in Prosthetic Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute.

In 1995 I started a Senior Dental Officer Post in Newham spending one day a week as a lecturer at the London. As a Senior Dental Officer I was a clinical lead for adults with special needs, providing care in clinics, hospital and in domiciliary settings. I was appointed as a specialist in Prosthodontics in 2001. I left Newham in 2006 to take up a full time lecturing position at the Dental Institute.

My areas of clinical interest include all aspects of removable and fixed prosthodontics and dental care of older people. Teaching interests include the use of video in elearning and the development of web based learning material. I am commencing a PhD looking at the forces applied to teeth and implants by Mandibular Advancement Splints.
