Dr Ginny Kingsmill, BDS PhD FDSRCS (Rest Dent)
Clinical Senior Lecturer
Ginny Kingsmill qualified in dentistry from the United Medical and Dental Schools (Guy’s) in 1991. After a year in hospital jobs she did a PhD in the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology at University College London under the supervision of Professor Alan Boyde. She became a lecturer in the Centre of Adult Oral Health at Barts and The London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1996, being promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2002 and completing Specialist Training in Restorative Dentistry in 2003.
Author of 18 peer reviewed articles, her PhD showed that the mandible is highly resistant to osteoporosis. Current research continues to investigate differences that exist between the mandible and other bones. In 2002 she was the first non-medically qualified researcher to receive a Clinician Scientist Award from the Department of Health. Total grant funding to date exceeds £540,000.
She has acted as a referee for many journals and was invited lecturer at the International Association for Dental Research Conference in Gøteborg 2003.
She has taught all years of undergraduate dental students from the first to the final year as well as dental therapy students. Subjects taught include conservative dentistry, dental emergency clinic, sedation, periodontology and prosthetic dentistry.
