Wendy Turner

Wendy Turner is Reader in Dental Education and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. She graduated from the London Hospital Medical College in 1992, and completed an MRC Clinical Training Fellowship and a Clinical Academic training pathway in Restorative Dentistry. She. She is a GDC registered Specialist  in Periodontology and Restorative Dentistry and working closely with a team of consultant colleagues, she provides specialist dental care for patients with a wide range of conditions, in particular, those with severe types of periodontal (gum) disease in both adults and children.


Wendy is Head of Undergraduate Programmes for Dentistry and Head of Centre for Adult Oral Health, the academic home of the restorative dentistry disciplines of periodontology, prosthodontics, and endodontics. She has extensive experience and commitment in teaching and assessing both undergraduate and graduate dental students and for nearly 20 years and has successfully trained hundreds of dentists, dental hygienists and therapists and specialist Periodontists. Her passion is educating dentists and ensuring that they are fit to cope with the challenges their career will bring.

She is a past President of both the Dental Society and The London Hospital Dental Club.


Research interests include systemic diseases and periodontitis, the use of antimicrobials in periodontology, and severe periodontal problems in children.


Outside of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Wendy is the appointed Training Programme Director for Periodontology Specialty Trainees across London, and was chair of the Teachers Section of British Society of Periodontology for 8 years. She was a Clinical Lead for the Dental Service at the 2012 London Olympics and the organising medical team was awarded the prestigious Nursing Times ‘Team of The Year’ award in 2013 celebrating projects demonstrating the value of teamwork in the UK health care sector.
