Oluyori (Yori) Adegun graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos in 2003. Post-graduation, he worked as a House Officer at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and then ECWA Evangel Hospital Jos, Nigeria. In 2006, he completed a Master’s degree (MSc) in Experimental Oral Pathology with Distinction at Queen Mary University of London. He subsequently obtained a Doctorate (PhD) from the same University, with a thesis entitled “Objective Localisation of Oral Mucosal Lesions using Optical Coherence Tomography”. During his doctoral studies, Yori engaged in numerous teaching activities which was formalised by successfully obtaining a Certificate in Learning and Teaching (CILT) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Academic Practice (PGCAP). In 2012, Yori became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Edinburgh (MFDS RCSEd). Yori is currently a Clinical Senior Lecturer and Senior Internal Examiner on the Clinical Human Health and Disease (CHHD) course and holds an Honorary academic position at the Research Centre for Clinical and Diagnostic Oral Sciences.
Yori currently delivers teaching on the Human Health and Disease (HHD) Course which is designed to educate Dental students on the recognition, evaluation and management of the medically compromised patients. He also facilitates small group clinical skills sessions aimed at providing the key clinical and communication competencies required to practice dentistry safely.
Yori has a special interest in Clinical Biometrics in relation to Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology. He and his colleagues have developed non-invasive imaging techniques which quantify disease-specific optical markers for use in selecting the most representative biopsy site in oral mucosal diseases. He works concurrently on the objective characterisation of morphological and volumetric peri-oral changes associated with the progression of Oro-facial Crohn’s Disease and its therapeutic interventions.
