I am currently in the final year of my PhD studying the role of the commensal microbiota and specific periodontal pathogens in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. This is part of a wider training programme that includes Specialist Clinical Training in Restorative Dentistry.
I have been fortunate that my research to date has allowed me to present at both National and International Conferences. I was honoured to be awarded the British Society for Oral and Dental Research Senior Colgate Prize in 2011 and this has led to the opportunity to present my research at the International Association of Dental Research Conference in Brazil in 2012.
My area of research interest is the microbiology and pathogenesis of periodontal. Specifically I have been looking at the role of the commensal microbiota and how known periodontal pathogens interact with this microbiota in the initiation and progression of inflammatory periodontal disease.
