Dr. Judith Jones qualified from The London Hospital Medical College Dental Institute with BDS in 1987. She has worked at the London Hospital as an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery House Officer and in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Departments of QEII & Luton & Dunstable Hospitals as a Senior House Officer.
In 1991 she returned to LHMC Dental Institute and completed a MSc in Experimental Oral Pathology, with a research project on integrins in oral epithelium and completed FDS RCS later the same year.
In 1992 she was awarded an MRCTraining Fellowship to carry out a PhD furthering work on the role of integrins in malignant oral epithelium, at both the Eastman Dental Institute and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund under the supervision of Paul Speight & Fiona Watt.
In 1998 she was appointed Lecturer/Honorary SpR in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at UMDS, which later merged with KCL.
In May 2003 she completed ACCOMS training at GSTT & KCHT and was awarded a CCST in Academic Oral Surgery.
In October 2005 she was appointed Honorary Consultant in Oral Surgery at GSTT & KCHT.
Dr. Jones is currently Senior Clinical Lecturer/Honorary Consultant in Oral Surgery at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
- Extensive teaching and examining experience both with undergraduates and post graduates.
- Was running the undergraduate programme in Oral Surgery at KCL from 2005.
- Involved in the educational aspects of dentistry and oral surgery in particular. Member of the Association of British Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Teaching Committee and is becoming more interested in curriculum planning and assessment methods.
- Examines in the MFDS and MJDF examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons, and is the Academic lead for the OSCE part of the new ORE.
Dr. Jones is interested in the role of cell adhesion molecules and the behaviour of malignant cells. In particular the role played by integrins in cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions in squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck region. She is also interested in Biomaterials in the head and neck region.
