Profile

Dominic Hurst

My background is in primary dental care having worked in private dental practice, community practice and, as a teacher, in a primary care outreach clinic on the Isle of Dogs, London. As a Clinical Lecturer in Primary Dental Care in addition to my clinical work I undertake research around quality improvement in primary dental practice and run the MSc in Dental Public Health.

Teaching

I lead on evidence-based dentistry teaching in our undergraduate dental curriculum, which runs from year one through to year 5. I am also course director for the MSc in Dental Public Health. I also teach on the clinic in our outreach clinic at the Barkantine Primary Care Centre on the Isle of Dogs.

Research

Research interests:

My research at QMUL is looking at ways of to improve quality around tobacco cessation advice and referrals in primary care, particularly dentistry.

I am also engaged in a DPhil in Evidence-Based Healthcare at the University of Oxford. My research there is looking at how dentists integrate various sources of evidence into their practical decision-making. The project website is https://knowledgeproject.info/

I write regularly for the Evidence-Based Dentistry journal and blog about EBD and primary dental care matters at www.primarydentalcare.blogspot.com.
