Dr Jelena Kosoric recieves £4111.93 for a CETL grant

The aim of this project is to create a visual databank (videos, photos) for dental students on how to take patient's history, how to evaluate gathered information, and how to develop diagnosis and treatment plan. The material will be created using actors, photos of clinical findings and already existing dental pathology databank. Also, the correct use of different diagnostic tests will be recorded (e.g. radiographs). The material will be combined to create a series of interactive tutorials using Articulate software to improve students' understanding of evidence based decision making process. It is necessary to create an opportunity for students to apply and practice acquired theoretical knowledge on diagnosis and treatment planning in a clinical-like environment without pressure of real clinical setting. These tutorials are aimed for 2nd year BDS students during small group teaching sessions (Plaque Related Disease Module) in the clinical skills lab prior to their first exit on the clinic. An interactive tutorial template will also be created that could be used in different dental disciplines. This databank and interactive tutorial will be uploaded on the College's Virtual Learning Environment providing students with 24/7 access.  The databank and templates will be free for use to all teachers.
