Clinical and Diagnostic Oral Sciences

Welcome to Centre for Clinical and Diagnostic Oral Sciences (CDOS) in the Institute of Dentistry at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

CDOS comprises several departments including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Microbiology, Oral Pathology and Dental Public Health. One of the main aims of the Centre is to provide an environment conducive to high quality research.

We work alongside the departments of Gastroenterology and Dermatology and aim to build further on our clinical and research links with these groups.

CDOS students include PhD and MD students as well as those taking taught causes such as the Diploma in Clinical Dental Science, MSc in Experimental Oral Pathology and Dental Public Health. The Centre also supports a group of post doctorates.

The group works towards achieving the following objectives:

  • To continue to progress and advance high quality laboratory based research
  • To develop and implement clinical protocols coordinated by clinical leads
  • To foster closer links with Primary Care Dentistry and allied health professionals to assist in clinical research programmes underpinning the basic research
  • To continue to develop links across the School of Medicine and Dentistry as well as encourage both national and international collaboration.
