Adult Oral Health

Welcome to Adult Oral Health in the Institute of Dentistry at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

The Centre is the academic home of the Clinical Restorative Dental Specialties (including Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Operative Dentistry and Periodontology) within the Institute of Dentistry. The Centre's broad range of activities include the responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate education in these subjects, together with a range of research groupings and the provision of clinical restorative dental care in conjunction with the Restorative Unit within the Dental Teaching Hospital of Barts and The London NHS Trust.  

Undergraduate education

Undergraduate teaching for students following the BDS course is organised into a series of interdisciplinary modules which include Plaque Related Diseases (including Operative Dentistry and Periodontology), Endodontics, and fixed and removable Prosthodontics.

Postgraduate education

The Centre for Adult Oral Health offers a range of opportunities for postgraduate study these include:

MClinDent in Periodontology
MClinDent in Prosthodontics

In addition, there are a range of opportunities to study for the higher degrees by research thesis including MSc, MDS and PhDs.

Research

The Centre has major internationally recognised research interests in:

  • Cellular and molecular biology of bone and periodontal tissues;
  • Genetic and other risk factors in periodontal disease;
  • the application of computerised biometric systems for the measurement of problems in restorative dentistry.

The emphasis in our research programmes is on research groups of critical mass working collaboratively to address important issues within oral science.
