Further information
Prosthodontics is that aspect of dentistry that deals with the replacement of missing teeth and an understanding of the biomaterials used in their construction. Biological and psychosocial aspects of this sphere of dentistry will be emphasised.
This can be achieved with fixed and removable appliances that are supported on teeth, implants or the oral mucosa.
We teach this speciality at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The module begins early in the undergraduate curriculum and is taught by a series block teaching, which includes lectures, seminars and self directed learning exercises. This is followed by clinical practice on patients supervised by experienced staff.
There are opportunities to follow selected study modules throughout the course to expand knowledge in areas of particular interest to the student.
As the course progresses more complex issues are raised and the student will be required to develop confidence and competence to a level expected of a general dental practitioner in this subject.
Knowledge and competence are tested by in clinically based in course assessments, formal examination and by objective structured clinical examinations.
